Relaxing music used to put spin on British nuclear issues

relaxing music influencing public opinionI found this Channel 4 News article and thought I’d mention it. It shows the effectiveness of relaxation music.

Last September, government-led meetings were held across Britain to canvas the public’s opinions on building new nuclear power stations, and relaxing music may have made the difference in how the final vote went.

After 9 day-long meetings across Britain, the vote was in and it favored the government’s position: 44 per cent said power companies should have the option of building nuclear plants, 36 per cent said no.

Past research had uncovered that people would only buy the nuclear argument if their fears concerning climate change were played upon, so those links were made. Also, the truth about how little of an impact nuclear plants would have on Britain’s overall CO2 emissions was carefully concealed.

One participant commented, “In the videos - alternative viewpoints had doom-ridden music in the background. The government’s view was then given against calm, relaxing music. I feel I have been mugged.”

Mugged by relaxing music!
