Memory Beat: a collaborative Music and Learning project
Sunday, October 21st, 2007
Memory Beat is a collaborative work developed by myself and Chris Boyd Brewer, internationally-known music expert, author and trainer. I provided all the music and engineering of the production, while Chris provided the Accelerated Learning (AL) expertise and sequencing.
The music on this CD is also suitable as simple relaxation music, as testified to by this delighted customer:
Dear Daniel,
I received your CD Memory Beat yesterday afternoon. At first, I was hesitant to purchase it because, from listening to your sample, I knew that it wasn’t going to be what I needed for images. To my delight , it is exactly what I do in my classes every day (in the same progression) intuitively without having read the research. (It’s just that I have many CDs that I use and from which to choose while teaching.) What is nice about this CD is that it is my normal day (without all of the shuffling) all on 1 CD. We are using it in class today. The kids love it (the Celtic selections are new for them).
The beauty of this CD is that it would make a lovely gift for anyone because of the variety and beauty of the music you have selected. It would be great dinner/cocktail party/soiree music!
Thank you for creating more peace and beauty for this world.
I am still wishing upon a star
. . .
although my trust lies in the Tao.
What a beautiful day you helped create in South Carolina today! Thank you.
I feel very blessed.
Light and love to you,
Liza

There are a lot of misconceptions about AL. Many people believe it is all about the composer (mainly Mozart) and style of music (mainly baroque) and how they motivate and accelerate learning. At its foundation, AL is a recognition that we each have limiting beliefs that inhibit us from realizing our full potential and inner wisdom. An AL teacher or facilitator receives special training to understand the inhibitions present, observe and interpret classroom behaviors, and provide an environment and activities that support optimum learning for all.
In an Accelerated Learning classroom, lighting, seating arrangements, use of wall space and music, and interactivity all combine to enhance the AL sequence. This sequence is comprised of a cycle including preparation for learning, emotional and mental motivation, the creative presentation of new content through simulations, experiments, etc., practice phases that include game-like activities, and closure through integration, reflection, and celebration of successes.
The music pieces on the Memory Beat cd were selected carefully to enhance this cycle. Music has been proven to enhance and stimulate certain brain waves, dependent of course on the music chosen, and brain waves are at the basis of learning. Different brain waves have been recorded as being present during different stages of learning. The pieces on Memory Beat enhance each of the cycles of AL. The listener cannot expect to simply listen to music and become smarter; but music is one of many valuable tools aiding the Accelerated Learning cycle.
